Story and results
Our summer trail run concert series have come to an end. We had approximately 100 racers at each event. Our runners varied in age, some are new to trail running while others are veterans, some are fast street racers while others are out to have a fun experience. Whatever category, we are happy to have everyone out familiarizing themselves with our races and the parks trail system. Due to our variance in runners we made a slight modification to the course this year by having one distance instead of two. We chose a distance and difficulty we thought everyone would be happy with. August 22nd and September 5th were both gorgeous evenings as the racers quickly made their way through the beautiful trails of Irvine Regional Park. The post race bands could be heard in the background at the finish or racers could sit with their family to cool off after an accomplished 5 mile trail race.
A BIG thank you to the OC Parks family for providing us with a great venue location, a concert, and giveaways (water bottles, chapstick, hats) for the runners. As always we like to give back to our participants in every way that we can. At both events all runners received a tech shirt designed by Shirtwerx (Victory Branding) and a medal designed by Crown Awards. The goodie bags, raffle, and awards were supported by our gracious partners Whole Foods, Road Runner Sports, Team Duke, Mix 1, Jamba Juice, Farmers Insurance, OC Sports Grill, Trail Runner Magazine, and Road ID………..
Top 3 female and male overall winners took home cash prizes and the choice of a either a Team Duke tech shirt or a Team Duke hat. We gave age group awards to the winners who came in first in their class. Please see the results page.
Whole Foods in Tustin provided reusable goodie bags which consisted of coupons, Acai natural energy drink, LARA Bars, Tulsi Organic Tea, and Bumble Bars. They also treated the runners with healthy post race snacks such as Pretzel Crisps, Sokenbicha Tea, oranges, and bananas. Mix 1, was at the races sampling their all-natural, great tasting protein shake. Road Runner sports gave 4 free shoes certificates and running socks. Jamba Juice gave ten $5 gift cards to the raffle. Vitafusion gave all the runners a sample of the best tasting vitamin gummies on the planet. Billy Frank of Farmers Insurance raffled off gas cards. OC Sports Grill, Trail Runner Magazine, and Road ID all gave gift certificates to the winners and for the raffle.
We appreciate the support of these businesses which allows us to generously give back to the participants. In return this allows Into the Wild the opportunity to give back to the Friends of Harbors, Beaches, and Parks to help maintain trails and park preservation, as well as, helping to fund ongoing public park activities. Also, all of our races in 2012 gave back to the John Wayne Cancer Foundation. You can sign up with Team Duke to fight for a cure.
We hope to see you all again!
